Ad contest for kids

Local youth get the chance to battle the tobacco industry in the 1997 "Don't Make Me the Target" Youth Ad Contest. Youth from around the greater Seattle area are encouraged to participate by developing a counter-ad which tells about the dangers of cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke. In the past two years, thousands of youth across Western Washington have participated in this ad contest with winning entries re-created on bus ads, posters, t-shirts and postcards. First prize is $1,000; runners up receive $250 and the winners' school receives a $500 gift certificate for art supplies. There is also a best teacher category. Entry deadline is April 18. Interested participants should call 448-6115 or 448-2949 for more information.
