Legal help available for victims

damage assistance Attorneys are volunteering to provide free legal counsel to people affected by the winter storms, flooding, and mudslides that began Dec. 26. Anyone in counties declared by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as eligible for individual assistance can get the legal help. The service is available by calling 1-800-520-5015 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Federal and state disaster recovery centers opened last month will become U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster offices. While many people are able to get disaster assistance information directly from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's two toll-free numbers, 1-800-462-9029 or TTY at 1-800-462-7585, others involved in the SBA disaster recovery loan process may want consultation with a SBA loan officer.
King County residents can turn in applications and get answers for questions at the Arctic Building, 3rd Floor, 700 3rd Ave., Seattle, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and at the Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 1st Ave. NE, Shoreline, 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m.-noon, Saturday.
