Northshore's eight National Merit Finalists
The National Merit Scholarship Foundation has named eight Northshore seniors as National Merit Finalists. The Finalists represent fewer than one-half of 1 percent of each state's graduating class.
Those named from Bothell High School are Elisabeth Howard, daughter of Geraldine and Matthew Howard; and Marc Templin, son of John and Jan Templin. Both families are residents of Bothell.
Finalists from Inglemoor High School include Rupa Raman, daughter of Sowmyan and Getha Raman of Woodinville; Ryan Riddle, son of Russell and Clara Riddle of Kirkland; and Sai Samant, daughter of Satish and Jyoti Samant of Seattle.
Woodinville High School finalists are Michelle Ip, daughter of Anthony and Ann Ip of Woodinville; Laurel Koons, daughter of Warren and Christine Koons of Redmond; and Christopher Yorks, son of W. Brinton and Phyllis Yorks of Woodinville.
Across the nation, the Foundation designated about 14,000 Finalists from among the Semifinalists named last September. These students now compete for some 7,000 National Merit Scholarships to be awarded this spring. Even if the Finalists do not receive a National Merit Scholarship, they often receive scholarship offers from other sources because of their standing as National Merit Finalists.
