'Cat in the Hat' celebrates
Random House Children's Publishing has launched a year-long celebration for the Cat in the Hat's 40th birthday, highlighted by an offer that will help needy children learn to read. For each birthday card sent to the Cat in the Hat, Random House will donate a book to the National Center For Family Literacy. Up to 150,000 books will be donated during 1997.
Pre-addressed birthday cards have already been distributed to bookstores, libraries, and schools to make it easier to participate. Children are encouraged to make their own cards and send them directly to the Cat in the Hat at:

Birthday celebrations continue throughout the year at the Seussville web site, http://www.seussville.com. Attractions include ShockWave games, a Cat in the Hat Birthday Cake recipe, and a schedule of Cat in the Hat bookstore appearances. A free Birthday Kit is sent with every purchase of a Dr. Seuss book from the website (while supplies last). The Kit includes balloons, place mats, activity sheets, and a Cat in the Hat poster.
