APRIL 14, 1997
Steve Philipp has paddled all around Puget Sound in the dugout canoes he built in 1927. They remain in mint condition.
Northwest Indian Cedar Culture will be the topic at the Maltby Forum April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maltby Community Club, 8711 206th St. SE. Longtime Mountaineer Club member and shipwright, Steve Philipp, will present models of Indian canoes, fish spears, and other artifacts illustrating how cedar wood was used in the daily lives of the Northwest Indians.
Philipp has lectured on how the Indians lived and worked for schools, youth groups, boat shows, museums, and teacher workshops. A literature table will be provided for any brochures participants may wish to share. Donations are asked to help cover the cost of hall rental, travel, and other costs. The event is sponsored by Don Finrow. Call (360) 668-6773 or (206) 486-6628.
