Small Farm Fair teaches basics

Small Farm Fair Learning the basics of farming brought 150 farm owners together last Saturday to Carousel Ranch in Woodinville. The Small Farm Fair was put on jointly by the King and Snohomish Conservation Districts to help people learn good stewardship techniques.
Topics ranged from mud and manure management to hoof care. WSU Livestock Advisors presented classes on caring for small animals like sheep and goats. During the afternoon classes, participants built a section of New Zealand style fence with assistance from Jaimie Fell and Mike Maggitti, of Gallagher fance. Barnett Equipment and Livestock Advisor Boone Barker presented a session on equipment suitable for small farms and had examples of tractors and implements on hand.
WSU Cooperative Extension from King and South Snohomish Counties, the King County Model Farm Project, and several other agencies had booths for participants to learn about services available. For further information, call 335-5634 or KCD at 206-226-4867.
