Celebrating National Herb Week in Fall City
This Mother's Day weekend marks the culmination of the celebration of National Herb Week, according to Ron Zimmerman, co-owner of The Herbfarm in Fall City and former vice president of the International Herb Association.
"We are particularly excited that this year's Herb of the Year is thyme," Zimmerman said, noting that thyme is perhaps the most versatile of all the culinary herbs. "It comes in a range of flavors, and is easy to grow here in the Northwest. I particularly like English Thyme and either Lemon Thyme or the Yellow Variegated Lemon Thyme. The Lemon Thymes are really terrific when used with seafood or when the fresh leaves are simply sprinkled over pasta."
The Herbfarm will be celebrating Mother's Day with a Thyme weekend. On May 10 and 11, the farm will offer free tours, tastings and live music by noted guitarist Patricio Contreras, formerly of the Royal Conservatory of Madrid.
"As always, we'll be offering a free plant for all moms," said Zimmerman. The Herbfarm is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
