garden tours Ten Eastside sites with gardens highlighting plants native to the Sammamish Watershed area will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. May 17. The sites showcase the many benefits of plants that naturally grow in that area. Throughout the self-guided tour, partipants will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of native vegetation and learn about the many benefits to homeowners and the surrounding environment.
   There will be four free workshops during the tour. From 11 a.m. until noon, and again from 1 to 2 p.m., concurrent workshops will be held at Slough House Park, 7447 159th Pl. NE, and the Gray Barn Nursery, 20871 Redmond-Fall City Road. Workshop topics inlclude native plant propagation, ethnobotany (the study of how native peoples used local plants), and attracting wildlife with native plants.
   Residents can visit any of stops on the tour, each of which is hosted by an expert who can answer questions and discuss plants used. Call 296-1951.
