Lightning stops water service
by Andrew Walgamott, staff reporter
A lightning strike knocked out water service to 160 residences near 75th Avenue SE in south Snohomish County on May 3. An underground pipe north of West Bostian Road suffered damage after a bolt from an early morning storm "caused trauma" to the pipe, according to Cross Valley Water District (CVWD) general manager, Gary Hajek.
Crews worked until Sunday afternoon to repair six breaks in the line. The line serves the Windsor Park, Wood Lane, and 75 Sutton Place developments and a few homes along 75th Avenue SE. Hajek said that the breaks had been sealed and the pipe flushed with a high strength chlorine solution. Water samples sent to a lab on Tuesday revealed the water was safe to drink again.
