AAU tryouts

   Northshore Thunder AAU basketball girls' tryouts will be held at Anderson gym. Sixth grade tryouts will be June 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. and June 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Seventh graders may try out June 2 and 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Eighth graders will try out June 3 from 8 to 9 p.m and June 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Ninth graders are scheduled for June 2 and June 4 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. All girls must attend both of the tryouts and should come 1/2 hour early to register. Grades listed are for the entering grade levels for the fall of 1997. A $50 registration fee will be returned if the player is not selected. Call 483-3603.

Olympic runners at Redhook

   Olympic and international competitors Steve Scott and Jim Spivey will be in Seattle to promote The Metric Mile, to be run June 1 on the Seattle Waterfront. The two runners will appear May 29 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Redhook Ale Brewery in Woodinville, where they will host a clinic and share stories about their running experiences with the Eastside Runners Club. Sports fun

   King County Parks presents Division 3 sports programs this summer for children. Softball Fun is an introduction to the sport for ages 4-6 years beginning May 30. Cost is $19. Little Sportsters is a sampler of non-competitive softball, soccer, and group games for ages 4-5 beginning June 23. Cost is $37 for 4 days. A Gymnastic Camp for ages 7 to 15 will offer bars, tumbling, balance beam, vaulting, rings, and trampoline beginning June 23. The cost is $44. Call 296-2964.

USPS boating course

   A safe boating course will be held Saturday, June 7 at Marine Surplus in Woodinville. The course is sponsored by the United States Power Squadron, Possession Sound Squadron. Pre-registration is required. Completing the course qualifies the student for membership in the USPS Power Squadron and insurance discounts. Call 483-0495.
