Barbara Cothern has announced that she is seeking election to the Snohomish County Council. Cothern, a Democrat, is running for position #4 in south Snohomish County, which includes Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Mill Creek, and parts of Bothell and Lynnwood and unincorporated areas.
Cothern has been a small business owner for 14 years and is a member of the Northshore Chamber of Commerce and recently served as vice chair of the Public Disclosure Commission of the State of Washington. She resigned from the Public Disclosure Commission to run for County Council. She was elected State Representative for the 1st Legislative District, serving as vice-chair of the House Education Committee, and on the Transportation and Revenue Committees. Cothern sponsored legislation which created the new Cascadia Community College. Prior to her service in the legislature, she served as president of the Northshore School Board.
Cothern has spent the last few years establishing the Northshore Public Education Foundation and is now serving her third term as chair of the Northshore/Shoreline Public Health and Safety Network, an organization promoting health and safety for children and youth.
