Summer sports fun for kids

   King County Parks announces the formation of a junior tennis team league for ages 10-16, running from June 24 to Aug. 8. Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at Canyon Park Jr. High. Cost is $42 for 10 sessions with five Friday matches.
   Little Sportsters is a four-day program featuring softball, basketball, soccer, and group games to help 4- to 5-year-olds develop basic motor skills. The program will be held June 23-26 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to noon at Cottage Lake Elementary School. Cost is $37.

Youth team tennis leagues

   This summer, Northshore youth team tennis leagues will be formed. Children ages 7 to 18 will have the opportunity to play light competition at their ability level or in a round robin format from June 24th to Aug. 26th. The league will emphasize 100% participation, tennis enjoyment, skills training, and sportsmanship. Call 788-9610.

   Johnny Miller and Rusty Miller, both from Woodinville, have received letters for Central Washington University's 1997 track and field squad.

Golf aids special Olympics athletes

   A foursome of Special Olympics athletes will join Kirkland Police Dept. employees and local celebrities at Echo Falls Country Club on June 26 in a golf tournament to benefit our area's special athletes. Registration is $85. Call 861-9788.
