JUNE 30, 1997
On Friday, July 4, at 2 p.m., the 3rd Great Fourth of July Inner Tube Race will commence. Conducted along a 1.5-mile stretch of the Tolt River, the race course consists of a mixture of light rapids and slow moving waters and is open to men and women 16 years and older.
Entrants are encouraged to be creative, but no motors are allowed, and only automotive type inner tubes may be used. There are four classes: Men 16 to 40, men over 40, women 16 to 40, and women over 40. The race is being sponsored this year by Discount Tire.
Entrants will receive a race T-shirt while supplies last. Purchase your inner tube at the starting line on July 4, or from a tire dealer. An 8.5 x 20 (or larger) truck inner tube is recommended. Recommendations also include sneakers or aqua shoes, long sleeve shirt, life jacket, and kayak or bicycle helmet. Entry is $12 for pre-registration or $15 on race day.
