Three days of Carnation 4th of July activities scheduled

Carnation 4th of July Carnation is celebrating the 4th with three days of fun-filled activities. On Thursday, July 3, the Candy Apple Carnival at Carnation Elementary opens at 6 p.m.with lots of rides, and "Steppin' Out" performs on the Carnival Stage at 7 p.m.
   This Seafair-canctioned community event has a wide variety of activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The Run For the Pies is open to walkers and runners. Winding down Main Street, through McDonald Park and back, the winners are awarded pies. The annual Pancake Breakfast will be serving a full meal.
   The Kiddie Parade precedes the Grand Parade, with marching bands and drill teams, dancing floats and horse drawn floats, posses, antique vehicles, Seattle's Chinese Drill Team, Scottish Pipe Band, and more. Entertainment is scheduled throughout each day and there is a live broadcast from Remlinger's on KVI.
   Enjoy homemade strawberry shortcake at the Senior Center. Visit the many other food and crafts booths in the Vendor Village on Main Street and at the Carnival site.
   The 3rd Annual Inner Tube Race down the Tolt River is open for 16 years of age and up. Prizes will be awarded.
   Music Memories, a Vegas Impersonation Revue featuring music from the '50s and '60s, will perform just before the fireworks display.
   The Beer Garden and 1st Annual Seafair Scramble, a golf event at the Carnation Golf Course, are new events. The Beer Garden at Pete's Club will help raise funds for the construction of a local swimming pool.

Run for the Pies

Run for the Pies Run for the Pies is a Carnation USA track & field certified 5K run/walk on July 4. A pre-race spaghetti feed is offered the night before with overnight camping available. The course is level out/back with finish line refreshments provided.
   Registration is at 7:30 am. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. with the awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Remlinger Farms pies go to the first three finishers in the walking division; pies and medals (gold, silver, bronze) to the first three finishers in each of the 11 & under, 12-14, and 15-18 age/gender division runners; random prizes also drawn.
   Pre-registration: $13 and a T-shirt; $9, no T-shirt. Day of registration: add $3.
