JULY 14, 1997
A Woodinville man who pleaded guilty to having sex with his girlfriend's 15-year-old daughter multiple times last year has been sentenced to more than 16 years in jail. Robert James Miller, 48, forced the girl, who was 14 years old at the time of the first rape, to have sex with him dozens of times between May, 1996 and September 20, 1996 as part of what he claimed was a Druid initiation, according to charging papers. He will serve 198 months in prison.
Miller pleaded guilty to charges of three counts of third-degree child rape in May. He was arrested September 29 of last year at his Woodinville-area home that he shared with his wife. The rapes began in Minnesota in May, 1996 after Miller and the girl's mother developed a relationship in 1994, following an airplane flight together. The mother and daughter moved to Washington from North Dakota in May. The mother worked for Miller at his computer business.
Prosecutors contend that the girl's mother was a willing participant in the rapes as well. The mother has also pleaded guilty to her part in the rapes. She must undergo counseling as a condition of her sentence.
