Wetland parcel may be added to Cedar Grove
by Andrew Walgamott
The city of Bothell and a Mount Vernon man are negotiating a land donation that will add several acres to a city park near Canyon Park.
William Blake has offered the city 4.5 acres of wetlands adjacent to Cedar Grove Park. Blake wants to develop his adjoining property for commercial business.
Before the city accepts, staff must answer property tax questions and decide if trip allocations to the commercial end of Blake's property will be affected by the donation.
"We appreciate the generosity of the private sector when they see the value of open space," Manny Ocampo, assistant city manager said. Cedar Grove Park has yet to be developed. Clark Meek, parks director, said picnic shelters and sports fields may be included in designs. The city is also considering using the wetlands portion for public education.
