Early last week the King County officials announced they will be opening a community service center near Cottage Lake.
It is expected the new office will relieve pressure on King County's Community Service Center at Bothell's Northshore Public Health Center and the King County Courthouse, according to Jim Buck, county licensing manager.
"We're trying to bring county courthouse services that are downtown out more to rural areas," Buck said.
For the new Community Service Center at Cottage Lake, the county has leased 1,000 square feet in two adjoining offices near the Zip's Market at the intersection of Woodinville-Duvall Rd. N.E. and Avondale Rd. N.E. The office, to open July 29, will provide residents with marriage, pet and business licenses, a place to pay property taxes, attain assessor records, register to vote, meet with county officials and read county job announcements. Buck said that in the future there may be computer links to county records at the office. Informational brochures on county services such as transit and garbage collection will also be available.
Buck said the office will bring county services closer to Woodinville-Duvall area citizens. He said the Bothell office has been getting large volumes of business from residents in the northeastern county area. He said it will be easier for those residents to visit the Cottage Lake office after it opens.
King County has been opening similar service centers since 1995, according to Buck. Often small, the offices are located with other county facilities. A center in Maple Valley shares space with a county park, and a Vashon Island office operates out of a police substation.
One county employee will staff the Cottage Lake office, which will be open noon-8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Buck said similar offices experienced 85 percent of their business after 5 p.m.
The phone number will be 296-2733. The office is located at 19145 Woodinville-Duvall Rd. N.E. A ceremonial grand opening will be held in August. The county will maintain its Bothell office, but it will only be open Mondays, Buck said.
