Beacon Rock reopens

  NW News staff
The south side of Beacon Rock, an 848 basalt rock, has been reopened for technical rock climbing, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announced. The rock was temporarily closed to climbing in March when a pair of peregrine falcons, which are listed on the state's threatened and endangered species lists, were seen attempting to nest on the south side. The nesting was unsuccessful this year, and so the rock is reopened.
