A 34-year-old white male construction worker suffered a dislocated shoulder and separated ribs after being pinned by a pipe he was guiding into place last Thursday afternoon, according to Mark Emery, Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District battalion chief. The incident occurred about 4:45 p.m. beside the SR 522 offramp to N.E. 195th St. in a large excavation where crews are installing a sewer line.
The injured man, David Hendrickson, was inside a vertical 25-foot-tall, 30-inch concrete pipe, guiding a horizontal sewer pipe suspended from a crane into place. The horizontal pipe slipped and briefly pinned Hendrickson against the interior of the concrete pipe. He did not lose consciousness, according to Emery.
Fire fighters arrived and immobilized Hendrickson. He was lifted from the excavation with a basket rigged to an aerial ladder, then airlifted to Harborview Hospital where he was listed in satisfactory condition Friday morning.
