NW News Staff
The National Merit Scholarship Foundation has designated five Northshore seniors as National Merit Semifinalists.
Those named from Inglemoor High School are Daniel Dethloff, son of Michael and Natalie DeMarr of Redmond; Kathryn McDonald, daughter of Jon and Karen Fallstrom of Snohomish; Ryan Toivola, son of Harri and Cheryl Toivola of Seattle; and Jennifer Zeman, daughter of Joseph and Leslie Zeman of Woodinville.
The semifinalist from Woodinville High School is Marc Vrana, son of Susan and William Vrana of Woodinville.
Across the nation, the Foundation designates about 15,000 semifinalists from among one million students who take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test.
The semifinalists, who represent the top one-half of each state's graduating class, are now competing for Merit Finalist status and an opportunity to obtain a National Merit Scholarship next spring.
