Fair on recreation opportunities for disabled

  NW News Staff
Citizens interested in learning more about recreational opportunities for children and adults with physical or developmental disabilities are invited to a free resource fair to be held Sunday, Oct. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at King County's Marymoor Park in Redmond. Representatives from more than a dozen organizations that provide recreation for disabled people will furnish information and answer questions.
The fair will feature information tables stocked with materials on how to access "respite" or professional caretaker services, and how to sign up for a wide variety of specialized recreational activities, including trips, tours, overnight functions, and an array of sporting events, such as bowling, skiing, and basketball. Respite services are designed to provide family members of a disabled person with a break from ongoing caregiver demands.
The fair will be held in the Clise Mansion in Marymoor Park, 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway N.E. For more information, call Marsha Threlkeld at the Arc at (206)364-4645, or Cathy Currie at King County Parks at (206) 296-2964.
