City rescinds Sorenson buy offer-for this year

WOODINVILLE--Last week, the City Council unanimously approved sending a letter to the Northshore School District that says Woodinville is rescinding its purchase option on the downtown C.O. Sorenson complex for this year. The city had an option to buy the 10.55 acre site for $5.9 million good through Dec. 31, 1997. "I couldn't recommend it to the council," Mayor Bob Miller said. "And they agreed it would take us too close to the bottom line, giving us no flexibility whatsoever." Talks between the city and district for the facility are expected to resume in 1998. "We're going to continue talking to the district," Miller said. The city has a lease on portions of the property through 1998. The council has expressed interested in developing a community civic center at Sorenson, if it is able to purchase the land and buildings there.
