Flood insurance available for city residents, businesses
WOODINVILLE--The City of Woodinville recently joined the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which allows all city residents and businesses to purchase federally-backed flood insurance. Residents can purchase up to $250,000 in flood insurance for a single family home with contents coverage up toś $100,000. Commercial properties can obtain coverage up to $500,000. Renters are also eligible to protect belongings through contents' coverage. There is a 30 day waiting period before coverage takes effect.
The city recently enacted ordinances aimed at reducing damage to buildings and property in NFIP-mapped floodplains in order to make its residents eligible for coverage. Residents with questions about NFIP can call the FEMA regional office at (425) 487-4600. Questions about city ordinances and floodplain development can be directed to Jenny Gaus, city surface water coordinator, (425) 489-2700.
