Tree recycling schedule

King County residents can recycle their Christmas trees and help the environment this holiday season by taking advantage of a free program. Last year county residents recycled more than 80,000 trees. This year's local drop-off site will be Home Depot, 18333 120th Ave. NE in Bothell. Trees can be dropped off on the three weekends following Christmas, Dec. 26-28, Jan. 2-4, Jan. 9-11. The sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The county's tree-cycling program applies to Christmas trees only. Normal transfer station fees will be charged for loads that have other waste mixed in. No artificial, fire-proofed or flocked trees will be accepted. Remove hooks, ornaments, tinsel and stands. Trees must be cut in sections of 8-feet or less with a base diameterof 4-inches or less.
