Wastemobile to visit the Redmond Bear Creek Park & Ride

The King County Solid Waste Division's traveling Household Hazardous Wastemobile will visit Redmond for a two week period beginning Jan. 2. The Wastemobile will be at the Bear Creek Park & Ride, located at the corner of 178th Place NE and NE Union Hill Road. Dates are Jan. 2, 3, 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Jan. 9, 10, 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As much as 25 percent of American's hazardous waste comes from private homes. It's estimated that each family in the U.S. produces about 15 pounds of hazardous waste a year. King County residents are invited to drop off their cans of used paint, paint thinners, pesticides, automotive products and car batteries at the Wastemobile at no charge. Materials can be disposed of only when the Wastemobile is open for business.

Proper disposal of these wastes is necessary to reduce environmental pollution. Materials such as mothballs, some flea remedies, nail polish remover, chlorine bleach and oven and rain cleaners are also hazardous waste and residents are encouraged to bring these to the Wastemobile rather than putting them in the garbage. Many hazardous household materials are then reprocessed or recycled. For more information about the King County Household Hazardous Wastemobile, citizens can call the Hazards Line at (206) 296-4692.
