A dairy good day at school

King/Pierce County Dairy Princess Julie Haakenson visited local elementary schools this month.

  Students at Fall City and Carnation Elementary Schools learned the importance of the dairy industry in Washington and the nutritional aspects of dairy products when the King/Pierce County Dairy Princess, Julie Haakenson, visited classrooms this month. Julie is the daughter of Erick and Paula Haakenson of Jubilee Farm in Carnation. After being an active member for six years in the Carnation Clippers Dairy 4-H Club, she was chosen to be the 1997-98 King/Pierce County Dairy Princess. Julie has been visiting classes ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Her presentation includes nutritional information, making and sampling butter and a question and answer session. In June, Julie will be among nine contestants to compete for the title of Washington State Dairy Princess.
