Kim Hensley and junior Girl Scouts from troops #1272 and #1636 filled the back of a pickup truck with litter collected along Little Bear Creek in south Snohomish County March 21. The project was part of Hensley's Gold Award, the equivalent of an Eagle Scout Award, as well as a community service for the junior troops. Hensley, 18, is a Woodinville High School senior.
Hensley said the project was also aimed at improving the streamside environment for plants, animals and salmon. Stocks of Chinook salmon on Little Bear are considered critically depressed from historic levels. She said crews collected bottles, papers and construction debris from the banks and flood plain of the creek from 233rd Street S.E. north to around 228th Street S.E. Participants included Nicole Hensley, Brianna Bulger, Lorayne and Alycia Hendrickson, Alison Eastman, Elizabeth Ward and Andrea Ford.
