Coordinator elected president of Music Educators National Conference

  Northshore Fine Arts Coordinator, Mel Clayton, has been elected national president of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). He will assume office as president-elect beginning July 1, 1998, and become president of the national organization July 1, 2000.
  
   Clayton has been involved in music education for 30 years, including teaching experience at the elementary, junior high and senior high, and college levels. In addition to teaching, he has also worked as a high school administrator. For the last eleven years, Clayton has worked in the Northshore School District; since 1990, he has served as the district's Coordinator of Fine Arts and Director of K-12 standards for the arts. In addition he has coordinated a district-wide plan of programs for those students, K-12, who are not working at minimum standard level in all curricular areas. As of June 30, Clayton will retire from his position with the Northshore School District.
