Sims proposes county-wide ban on fireworks
King County Executive Ron Sims introduced a measure last week that would prohibit the sale, use and possession of fireworks in 1999. The ban would affect unincorporated King County and the areas of the county outside of city limits. But it would allow public displays such as the one planned for this Fourth of July at King County's Marymoor Park and several others around the county. "Needless fatalities have been caused, as well as fire and damage to both private and public property from the public's use of fireworks," said Sims in a prepared statement. The proposal now goes to the King County Council for consideration. To be effective July 4, 1999, it must be adopted by June 28, 1998.
