MALTBY--A body found in a Maltby-area pond has been identified as that of a missing 39-year-old Snohomish man. James N. Whitaker, who disappeared May 6 after leaving a party at a friend's in the 9800 block of 196th St. S.E., was found May 17 four blocks away in a private pond by Snohomish County Search and Rescue teams. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined that Whitaker died from drowning. "We're not investigating this as a homicide, but we are awaiting toxicology reports to see what happened," said Jan Jorgensen, Snohomish County Sheriff's spokeswoman. There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, she said. At the request of the Snohomish police department, the Sheriff's Major Crimes and Search and Rescue units conducted a ground and aerial search for Whitaker.
