Woodinville fireman assists in Kansas rescue
by Woodinville Weekly staff
WOODINVILLE--WFLSD Deputy Chief Dominic Marzano was dispatched to Kansas last week to assist in the rescue of victims of a grain elevator explosion there. Marzano, of the Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District, is a team leader for the Seattle/King County Urban Search and Rescue team.
Marzano told fire officials here Wednesday the team hoped to rescue workers trapped in a tunnel 25 feet underground, even as hopes for their survival was dimming. The DeBruce Grain Elevator in Haysville, Kansas, reportedly the largest complex in the world, exploded June 8. At least five people died and eleven were injured in the blast.
Previously, members of the Seattle/King County rescue team were deployed to Oklahoma City after the federal building there was bombed. Marzano has been with WFLSD since April, 1988. He is the disaster preparedness manager for the district.
