Maltby Food Bank moving to temporary quarters

   by Woodinville Weekly staff

MALTBY--The Maltby Food Bank is moving to a new building, but in the meanwhile they will be based out of the Clearview Community Center. "Even though we are moving, we will still be around," said Fran Walster, food bank director. She said the state Department of Transportation has notified the food bank that they need to be out of the Maltby Mercantile by July 1. The state is going to build a new overpass at Paradise Lake Road and State Route 522 and has bought property there.

The food bank's new building, to be built by an anonymous donor, will be located near the Maltby Cafe but won't be completed for some time. In the meantime, the Clearview Community Center, located on State Route 9 north of 180th St. S.E., will open for food bank July 16, according to Walster. She said volunteers are needed to move food June 16 as well as set up and take down the last food bank at the Mercantile June 25. Call her at (360) 668-4429 or Peg at (425) 483-1946.

The Clearview facility was made available through the generosity of William Kemple. It will be open the first and third Thursdays of each month for food. The Maltby Food Bank, five years in existence, serves about 225 families a month in the south end of the Monroe School District.
