Woodinville High School Music students returned victorious from a Vancouver, B.C. trip last week winners of two Gold Medals and First Place Awards from the internationally recognized Heritage Music Festival.
Director Jim Rice, and 141 students representing five groups including Orchestra, Symphonic and Concert Bands, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band competed in a strenuous three day regimen of performances.
First Place/Gold Medals were awarded to Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. Jazz Lab Band under the direction of WHS alumni and UW student, Joe Dyvig, also won a First Place award. Other awards were presented including Best Percussion Overall for Marching Band.
Over two thousand students in 23 schools competed from such distances as Monterey, California and Saskatchewan.
