DUVALL--Three Beanie Babies scheduled to be raffled off as part of a benefit for cancer victim Mark Heyting were stolen from a glass case in Kallander's Gift Store last Friday afternoon.
The Beanie Babies-Erin, Fortune and Wise-were donated by Kallander's for the benefit.
The store's co-owner, Dianna Kallander-Traylor, said her back was to the counter while she was talking to a customer, and when she returned to the counter the three Babies were gone.
Whoever stole the toys apparently reached over the counter to access the case, she said.
The Beanie Babies will be replaced for the raffle, she added. Tickets are $1 each and can still be purchased at the store on Main Street. The replacements will be raffled off at 6 p.m. on July 19.
The money will go towards $20,000 that is being raised by Valley residents for a blood stem cell transplant for Heyting. The transplant is not covered by insurance.
"It's just wonderful how the people here have rallied for the family," Kallander-Traylor said. "It's a shame this happened."
Police were called to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Kallander's at 844-4148.
