Around the Valley


Kindergarten readiness workshop

   A workshop for preschoolers and their parents will be held Monday, Aug. 3 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Fall City Library. At this workshop, parents will learn how to help prepare their preschoolers for school by participating in fun activities that will improve skills needed to learn to read and write.
   Families will take home a useful packet with game instructions, learning resources and helpful hints on how to help their children at home. This workshop is open to parents and children ages 4 and 5. Please register by calling Eastside Literacy at 558-2459.

Classes at The Herbfarm

   This summer The Herbfarm in Fall City offers a wide array of classes dealing with growing, crafting, cooking and medicinal use of herbs. From Introduction to the World of Herbs to Cooking with Northwest Truffles, students of all ages are likely to find something to pique their interst. Lifetime Fitness adding evening class

   Paulette Jacklin will be adding a new evening fitness class starting this week at Sno-Valley Senior Center.
   The class will meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-7 p.m. The class is designed for all ages and abilities. The program runs for 12 sessions and costs $25. Call 333-4152.

Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis golf tournament

   The Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis Annual Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, Aug. 6 at Mt. Si Golf Course. Entry deadline is July 29. Entries after July 29 will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
   There will be prizes for all skill levels. Proceeds will benefit Kiwanis Scholarship Fund for Snoqualmie Valley Youth. Call 425-888-1541 or 391-4926 for an entry form.

Art on the Farm

   Art on the Farm classes for children 6-11 will be taught at Fall City Farms on August 1, 9 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. $25 per child. Call 425-222-7930.

Classes at Friends of Youth

   Summer classes will be available from Friends of Youth in Snoqualmie and Carnation. Classes include: Effective Parenting of Teens, Choices for Youth, Parenting of 6-12-year-olds, Drug Free Challenge and support groups. Call 425-844-3090 for information.

Snoqualmie Valley Women's Festival

   The second annual Snoqualmie Valley Women's Festival will be held August 1 at the Cherry Gardens Community Club, 16600 Kelly Road NE in Duvall. The free event will begin with a potluck breakfast at 9 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. Bring dish for potluck breakfast; afternoon refreshments provided. Volunteer mentoring training

   The Snoqualmie Valley Youth Mentoring Program is offering a mentor training on Friday, July 31, 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 1 from 9-3 (lunch included), at the Snoqualmie office of Friends of Youth, 7972 Maple Ave. S.E. Snoqualmie. Call Lorry Clapp at 333-4457.
