Local dancer competes at national competition

Woodinville High School senior Sarah DeWater recently competed in a National Dance competition in Las Vegas, NV. The competition was put on by Starpower Inc., a national dance organization.

DeWater, who dances for Elizabeth's Dance Dimensions studio in Bellevue, performed one solo, and was in four group numbers. Her solo, performed to "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan, received a platinum medal, and a fifth place overall. She also placed second in the costume judging competition.

All four of the group numbers received platinum or gold medals.

Two of them were among the 34 numbers invited back for the final day of the competition, dubbed the "Battle of the Stars," where the cream of the competition were performing for overall placement and prize money.

Their tap number, "Stuff Like That," won first place in the category and $1,000 prize money. Their production number, "Love Stages," placed second in that category and $500 prize money.

According to DeWater's father, Jim DeWater, the level of competition, especially on the last day, was very high and for them to place as well as they did was very exciting for the dancers and their families who made the trip.

She has been dancing since she was five years old, and plans to pursue a career in dance after high school.
