Valley Special

Veterans benefits info available

According to the Lower Snoqualmie Valley Post No. 199 of the American Legion, some bad information on the internet has led many veterans to worry, falsely, that they may lose VA benefits if they don't enroll by Oct. 1.
These reports are wrong, says the American Legion. Veterans can enroll for benefits at any time. Assistance is available by writing to Post 199, PO Box 960, Carnation, 98014.
Bingo is offered at the Post on 31957 E. Commercial St. in Carnation every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 6:45.
There is, in fact, an enrollment process underway. Enrollment rules mention the date of Oct. 1, but veterans will not lose their right to VA benefits and medical care if they fail to turn in the magic form on the magic day.
Carrol Williams, the Director of the American Legion's Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Commission, compared the erroneous reports to a hoax that surfaces from time to time about services and benefits for veterans.
