The Auction of Northwest Wines, the third largest charity auction in the nation, may have moved to second place after raising a record $1,125,000 for the uncompensated care program at Children's Hospital & Medical Center last Saturday night at Chateau Ste. Michelle.
A black tie affair, guests sipped champagne, sampled barrel tastings and enjoyed a formal dinner while participating in the serious business of raising money.
The dinner was held in a white ten decorated with red velvet curtains, a dance floor and runway for auctioneers Dick and Sharon Friel to show off the 67 auctions items
Spencer Christian, well known meteorologist on Good Morning America and wine connoisseur, was the honorary chair of this year's even.
Christian served as the spokesperson for the "Children First Campaign" to help promote mentors for children.
Most items went for more than their stated value. A BBQ, including a performance by Kenny G, who attended the event, went for $45,000.
Jim Sinegal, President /CEO of Costco, Wholesale and Howard Schultz, Chairman/CEO of Starbucks Coffee were co-chair. Sinegal thanked the hundreds of volunteers who organized the event.
