WFLSD closes deal

WOODINVILLE--Half a month after the board of the Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District voted to buy the Knoll Lumber property for a new downtown station, the $2.5 million deal has finally been closed. "The papers were signed and the money wired to the title company yesterday (Sept. 17)," said Fire Chief Steve Smith.
The district will need at least 18 months to build a new headquarters, station and training facility, according to Smith.
Knoll was given a six-month lease to continue operating there, according to Commissioner Clint Olson.
Smith said there has been a $2.4 million offer on Station 31, where the current headquarters are located. A deal is pending further negotiations he said. Also, Smith's contract as fire chief was extended five years which he said he was "very, very pleased" with.
"This is where I'd like to finish my career," the 49-year-old chief said.
