PUD approves winter discount program

The Snohomish County PUD Board of Commissioners has expanded its annual winter discount to include more low-income customers. The program will provide reductions of 20 percent, 50 percent or 70 percent off PUD bills from Oct. 1, 1998 through March 31, 1999.
The amount of the discount will be determined by income.
The program being offered by the utility is the same as that offered last winter, except that eligibility has been expanded to include all customers who have a household annual income that is below 125 percent of the federal poverty level (or $20,562 for a family of four).
Also eligible for discounts are senior citizens that are 62 years of age or older and have a combined disposable annual income of less than $188,000. Last year only low-income customers with disabilities and low-income seniors were eligible for the discount.
Customers can request an application by calling the utility's customer service department at (425) 258-8230 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Those who must make a long-distance call to Everett can reach the utility by dialing 1-800-562-9142.
