Community Network meets Oct. 20, seeks new members
The Snoqualmie Valley Community Network Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Chief Kanim Middle School in Fall City.
The Snoqualmie Valley Community Network is a community-based citizens' group charged by the legislature with reducing youth problems locally.
The Network Board is currently seeking new members. The responsibilities of the Board include:
- Making decisions on how to spend county, state and federal funds locally,
- Creating recommendations to make the systems serving children and families work better, and
- Mobilizing the community and coordinating with other organizations to improve results for children and families.
Board terms are three years in length. Members attend a monthy Board meeting, usually held on the third Tuesday of the month in the evenings, and participate on committees.
Based on prevalence data and local input, the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network has targeted the prevention of child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, substance abuse and teen pregnancy as its focus for funding and voluntary action.
Sharon Gauthier of Carnation chairs the citizen board, which includes representatives of each of the Valley cities as well as officials from government and non-profit organizations serving children and youth.
