DUVALL--City councilmembers of both Carnation and Duvall have expressed an interest in building a skate park for local youth, according to Lorry Kaye, Lower Valley Youth Program coordinator.
The councilmembers were at a Nov. 5 workshop Kaye had organized in an effort to drum up interest in the skate park. The workshop at Cherry Valley Elementary drew about 60 local residents, "including many young people," Kaye said.
"We received a lot of input on skate park design," she said. "We need about 6,000 square feet. As soon as we have a preliminary design, we will be forming a committee to work on a site and funding, which we have not yet identified."
The Lower Valley Youth Program is currently collecting information on funding sources, she said, noting that some contractors have already signed up to donate time and materials. "We are headed in a positive direction and think it is going to happen," she added.
