Cedarcrest High School team wins State Economics Challenge

On Nov. 17, a team from Cedarcrest High School won the State Economics Challenge, sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and Economics America. The Challenge is a competition for high school students to increase their knowledge and understanding of economics.

   Four 25-minute rounds in the areas of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Systems and Current Event issues make up the challenge.

   The Cedarcrest team will represent Washington state in the 12th Federal Reserve District Challenge to be held on Dec. 4 in San Francisco. The team is sponsored by Evergreen Bank of Seattle.

   The victorious team members are Billy Filer, Keegan Grady, Andrew Moravec, and Joe Wasem. Ms. Feather Alexander, a teacher at Cedarcrest, is the team advisor.

   In addition to winning the free trip to San Francisco, the winning team received a plaque for their school, certificates, and $100. Joe Wasem was the top scoring student of the Challenge, receiving a certificate and a $50 award.
