Musical fundraiser for Canyon Creek chorus

The public is invited to a fundraiser for the Canyon Creek Elementary chorus' trip in February to the Northwest Music Educators Conference, on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Canyon Creek Elementary School gym.

The Encore jazz chorus from Inglemoor High School, and the 128-voice 5th/6th grade chorus from Canyon Creek will perform that evening.

Canyon Creek competed with a record number of musical groups (i.e. university orchestras, high school chamber ensembles, junior high bands) from six states to perform in this conference. Five judges from across the Northwest listened to tapes of the finalists and decided who would receive an invitation.

Canyon Creek is the only children's choral group invited to perform from within the six-state region. Their conductor is Patricia Bourne; their accompanist is Michele Maas, Canyon Creek parent and Bothell piano instructor.

Six of the Inglemoor High School students performing on Dec. 15 will also perform at the conference in Portland, Oregon. After auditioning, they were selected to be part of the 28-member All-Northwest Jazz Choir. The students are Sarah Apsel (12), Megan Buxton (11), John DeFrees (12), Jill McAuley (12), Jorgen Olson (12), and Keith Schram (12). Inglemoor's choral program is led by Judy Filibeck.

Dessert and coffee will be served. Donations of $2 will be requested. Those interested in helping the chorus make their trip to Portland, but unable to attend the concert, donations would be greatly appreciated. Checks can be made payable to the Canyon Creek Music Boosters and mailed to the school, c/o Patty Bourne, at 21400 - 35th Ave. SE, Bothell, WA 98021. Donations are tax-deductible.
