   Navy Seaman Heather K. Young, daughter of Walter P. and Joan E. Young of Carnation, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
   During the eight-week program, Young completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
   Young is a 1991 graduate of Tolt High School and a 1997 graduate of Washington State University with a BA degree.

   Marine Pvt. Jim C. Fabian, a 1997 graduate of Cedarcrest High School in Duvall, recently graduated from the Basic Hygiene Equipment Operator Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C.
   During the course, Fabian received instruction in basic plumbing, maintenance equipment, military water supply, water purification and hygiene equipment, and field sanitation. With his newly-acquired skills, Fabian is ready to provide maintenance at a Marine Corps base or serve with a field unit ensuring troops have an adequate water supply and necessary hygiene equipment.
   Fabian joined the Marine Corps in October, 1997.
