Street is not a race track
My home is directly across 168th Ave. N.E. from Leota Jr. High school. A school zone is marked at 25 mph and 20 mph when children are present. This street feeds the Jr. High, Wellington Elementary, a church and two preschools. It has a yellow line down the center. Not a yellow racing stripe. In the past I twice borrowed a radar car from the county and clearly documented a severe speeding problem on the street. The data was presented to the police with acknowledgment of a problem. Both myself and neighbors have personally visited the police several times to cajole and explain, and were handed myriad excuses from lack of radar units (?), to "we'll do something after school starts up." School has started up...for many years now, and I have yet to see any police presence. After years of begging and pleading I gave up.
There are children crossing the street and walking to school along the no-shouldered east edge as you whiz by, oblivious, at 40 mph because your child is late to school. Much of this traffic is due to the barricade on N.E. 195th. We get the traffic on this side, the folks on the other side do not. Both ways. My kids are in danger and yours are not. Is this fair? No. But, it is political reality when those with the time, the organization and the bucks can impose their own artificial cul-de-sac (and the associated traffic) on others.
This past week my next door neighbor's dog was struck and killed in the street. Their previous cat was struck and killed a little over a year ago. Hopefully, in the future the carnage will be limited to animals, and it won't take a human/car connection to get some attention from the City of Woodinville. This may be the poor side of the tracks, but personal injury lawyers work on contingency!
My request is this: If you are going to have your barricade and your bogus cul-de-sac with my tax money, then show respect enough to slow down while driving through the neighborhood! That's what you would want on your street. There are kids, animals and vehicles here that are just as important as yours, even if less recognized.
