Northshore PTA High School scholarships

scholarships   Northshore PTA Council, in their commitment to bettering the lives of children and young people, is offering a scholarship opportunity to Northshore High School Seniors. The goal of this scholarship is to assist graduating seniors who demonstrate the ability to balance and excel in both academic performance and school/community service and demonstrate some financial need.

Four $500 scholarships will be given, one to each high school. To be eligible to receive this scholarship, the Northshore students must be seniors, graduating this year from Bothell, Inglemoor, Woodinville, or Secondary Alternative Schools. The scholarship must be used at an accredited two- or four-year college/university, or at an accredited vocational school within the academic year following graduation from high school.

Applications will be available through each high school's counseling offices, or by request from Northshore PTA Council. Applications should show a strong school/community service record, scholastic ability, and financial need. All applicants must submit the application, 2 letters of recommendation, and an essay on "Benefits of Volunteering in the Community or Schools."

This scholarship is part of the Washington State PTA's Scholarship Foundation, which will award $55,000 in college scholarships for the 1999-2000 academic year. It is financed through a unique statewide volunteer recognition program.

Local PTA units throughout the state identify and honor volunteers in the community who have significantly worked for the health, welfare, safety, and education of children and youth. Donations made in the honoree's name provide the funds for the program.

Applications must be postmarked by March 26, 1999. For more information or to request an application packet, please call Northshore PTA Council office at 425-489-6491, or the committee chairperson at 425-485-1857.
