Inglemoor senior is science semifinalist

   Alpana Amalkant Waghmare, a Bothell resident and senior at Inglemoor High School, was named a semifinalist in the nationwide Intel Science Talent Search. She was one of 1,470 students who entered the competition, and one of 300 named a semifinalist. Alpana is a student in Northshore's International Baccalaureate full diploma program.

   The title of her award-winning research project, which was conducted at the University of Washington, is "Verification of High-Density DNA Array Hybridization by Means of Electronic Northern and RT-PCR for Potential Ovarian Cancer Marker Genes." This work turned into a 4,000-word independent research project.

   Finalists will travel to Washington, D.C., to be honored and share in $330,000 in scholarships.
