Northshore Reflections finalists

Daydreaming

Dandy-Lion

"Suddenly you turn around and You Are Daydreaming, by Erica Shanta of Northshore Junior High, was an entry in the Middle/Junior competition.

"Suddenly you turn around and A Dandy-Lion Looks Back at You, by Sarah Dammrose from Hollywood Hill Elementary, won first place in the Intermediate group.

Desert

   The annual Washington State PTA Reflections program had as its theme this year "Suddenly you turn around and..." Students could interpret this theme in any way they felt appropriate.

   The purpose of the program is to encourage creativity and allow students to explore their thoughts and feelings. Categories of participation included: Literature, Music, Photography, and Visual Arts.

   Grade divisions were: Primary, preschool-2nd grade; Intermediate, 3rd-5th grade; Middle/Junior, 6th-8th grade; and Senior, 9th-12th grade. Each school in the Northshore School District submitted ten visual arts, ten literature, five music, and five photography entries.

   The Northshore winners will now compete at the state level. The finalists included:

   Photography: Primary--Lacey London, Lockwood Elementary, and Kate Cheney, Sunrise Elem. Intermediate--Sammie Hertzog, Cottage Lake Elem., and Rudy Ruiz, Woodin Elementary. Jr./Middle--Leah White, Woodmoor Elementary, and Corey Hansen, Shelton View. Senior--Kristi Redman, Inglemoor High, and Alana Benzel, Woodinville High.

   Visual Arts: Primary--Nolan Hoppe-Leonard, Frank Love Elem.; Eve Beausoliel, Sunrise; and Kayla Schick, Hollywood Hill. Intermediate--Sarah Dammrose, Hollywood Hill; Emily Stefansson, Wellington Elementary; and Amy Cattle, Woodin. Jr./Middle--Victor Wilkens, Kenmore Elementary; Helen Roundhill, Wellington; and Jennifer Tran, Frank Love Elem. Senior--Jessie Orvidas, Inglemoor High; Carma Davies, Kenmore Jr. High; and Alana Benzel, Woodinville High.

   Music: Primary--Kayla Schick, Hollywood Hill, and Rachel Weinstein, Kenmore Elementary. Intermediate--Bryce Segall, Woodin, and Zachary Liao, Shelton View. Jr./Middle--Erin Dodge, Maywood Hills Elementary, and Andrea Ford, Timbercrest Elem. Senior--Ken Belcher, Kenmore Jr. High, and Julie Johnson, Canyon Park Jr. High.

   Literature: Primary--Stephanie Chu, Kenmore Elem., and Davis Harrison, Kokonee Elem. Intermediate--Carolyn Gombotz, Zachary Lundin, and Leah Scott-Zechlin from Shelton View Elem. Jr./Middle--Tara McLaughlan, Bear Creek Elem., and Stephanie Coles, Maywood Hills Elementary. Senior--Meredith Ypma, Timbercrest Jr. High, and Eric Freytag, Inglemoor High.

   Dual Placement Awards were won by Alana Benzel, Kayla Schick, Alex Bogh, and Jennifer Tran. Kristi Redman received the Outstanting Interpretation Award.
