Volunteers needed to salvage trees

The King County Department of Natural Resources needs volunteers to dig up native trees and shrubs from a future housing site March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The plants will then be relocated to restoration sites around King County to improve habitat, keep water cool, and control erosion.

To get to the salvage site from Woodinville-Duvall Road: travel south on Avondale Rd. until you reach NE 132nd Ave. Turn left on 132nd and then turn right onto NE 133rd. Continue on NE 133rd until it turns to the left. As the road bends left, turn right down a gravel road to the salvage site. Watch for signs.

Volunteers are advised to wear old work clothes and rubber boots and dress for the weather. They should bring work gloves and coffee mugs (optional). Light refreshments will be provided. Tools and gloves will be available for those without.

Volunteers are also needed at the Redmond holding facility from 12:30 to 4 p.m. to help pot the salvaged plants. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

The salvage site was donated by Quadrant. Those wishing to participate should call Greg Rabourn at (206) 296-1923.
